Recently the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) updated the old I-9 form (dated 2013) with a new form (dated 2019). Employers can use the old form until January 21, 2017 or can begin using the new form right away. While conducting HR Audits, ITsHRc, LLC finds compliance and record keeping rules are areas often times employers fall short. The fines for errors or improper record keeping can prove costly ranging up to $1000 per I-9 (times that by the number of employees you have and you can see it’s not an area you want to get wrong!).
